Kenyon Fashion Week: 6 Gambier Couture Looks

Like any other college, Kenyon has its own special groups of people: some are obsessed with theater, others are always at soccer practice, and a few are just trying to make their way to an 8 AM class after downing 3 cups of Peirce coffee. But what do these groups of students wear? Here are 6 outfits you’re bound to see on Kenyon’s campus, re-imagined as pieces of haute couture – because who doesn’t want to show up to class in a ballgown?

The Team Player

            They’re always coming to and from practice or wearing a KC team headband. They probably get more exercize in one day than you have in the past month, and their athletic shorts are brightly colored and match their running shoes. You don’t actually know where they are half the time (probably out practicing with their team), but they’re super nice to talk to, and they know which smoothie flavors are best at the KAC because they’re always there!

The Art Student

            One has probably published a book, the other has Allison Janney on speed dial, and another has just gotten a grant to work for the Met the summer after their junior year. They look great in black (which they always seem to wear) and they have the coolest accessories around. If you get over your nerves and talk to them, they’re some of the smartest, most incredible people you’ll ever meet.

The Freshman Trying Too Hard At A Party

            We have all been that one freshman who shows up to their first college party in heels and a dress when everyone else is wearing shorts and Converse. The second time around, you’ll see this type of Kenyon student in much comfier clothing. Hey, you’ve got to learn sometime, right?

The Hipster

            All colleges have them, and Kenyon is definitely no exception. They’re the ones who pair floral dresses with birkenstocks and somehow make it work, and the ones you admire for only wearing sustainable clothing. It’s hard to pick out one singular Kenyon hipster, but when you see one, you’ll know – they’ll probably be relaxing on the lawn doing homework, or reading Proust in the Gund Gallery.

The ‘Logo’

            They really, really, really love Kenyon. You know this because they are always talking about it, and always wearing something with Kenyon’s logo on it. You know when you’ve spotted a ‘logo’ if they’re clad in purple from head to toe, or if they have a graveyard of Kenyon baseball caps in their closet. Their younger sister has more Kenyon gear than you do, and they own basically anything that says “Kenyon” on it from the bookstore. You could spend hours gushing with them about how great Kenyon is.

The ‘Relaxed’

            They’re wearing fringed jeans and a plain T-shirt, probably have just come from an econ class, and are ready to spend the day tucked away in the library studying. Every Kenyon student will revert to this look at least once. But every one will also put their own cool style into it.

            Kenyon is a diverse place, and can’t only be grouped into 6 categories. Even though it’s fun to imagine everyone as being a ‘type’, every Kenyon student puts their own spin on their outfit, just like every one puts their own spin on life!
