Healthy foods to eat when you’re stressed

As a college student, you often find yourself staying up past midnight working on a paper, studying for an exam or working on a project. Along with the late night studying comes stress and midnight snacks. It’s easy to run to Prentice and grab a wrap and a bag of chips to stay awake, but eating a lot of food at night isn’t always the healthiest. Below are a list of healthier options to eat when you are stressed late at night working on homework.

 

  1. Hummus and Veggies

    The hummus has protein so it will fill you up and the veggies help reducing your chance at heart disease, high blood pressure and are rich in minerals and vitamins. 

  2. Trail Mix

    If you’re looking for a sweet snack, but don’t want the calories try trail mix! Trail Mix has nuts which have protein, chocolate chips for your sweet tooth and raisins have fiber and vitamins and minerals.

  3. Dried Fruit

    Dried Fruit is another great snack to have when you want something sweet. With dried fruit you are giving your body more fiber and antioxidants. Antioxidants are good for your skin and for helps prevent diseases. 

  4. Edamame

    If you are looking for a savory midnight snack edamame is perfect as well! Edamame is low in calories and is a good source of iron, calcium and protein.

  5. Yogurt and Granola

    Lastly, if you want a larger healthy late night snack, yogurt and granola is perfect for you! Yogurt provides you with calcium, potassium and magnesium. While the granola gives your body with fiber and iron.

 

When you are up late at night studying it’s easy to reach for the closest bag of chips or a package of oreos, but junk food will just make you crash. These five different snacks are a great alternative and give you the nutrients you need to stay healthy.
