If you’re anything like me, the holiday season is dreadful for you too. Having to gather to see some people who you love and some who you’d be fine never seeing again. Here are a few tips I’ve found helpful during my holiday season that you might too.

  1. The Smile and Nod – no matter what they say just smile, even give a small laugh every here and there and nod along, agreeing with whatever bullshit comes out of their mouth. I don’t only use this for the holiday season but for every season.
  2. “I’m Thirsty” – I use this one a lot during the holidays. Get trapped in an uncomfortable conversation, or maybe get cornered by some family you hate talking to? Tell them that you are super thirsty and need a drink and simply walk away. It may be tricky to stay away after getting your drink, but trying to find someone bearable to talk to is a safe bet.
  3. Fight or Flight – in this scenario I always choose flight, so when you see someone, you don’t want to talk to coming your way just simply run away. This one is my favorite one to do because older people are usually who I’m running from, so it’s easy to go from one room to another easily without being caught.
  4. “Sorry I think my mom needs me” – I am guilty of also using this excuse quite often. Fake getting a text from your mom and get out of there. If your mom is anything like mine, she doesn’t like the person who’s trying to talk to you either so she should save you and keep the crazies away.
