The 6 Awkward Struggles of Going to the Gym

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ithaca chapter.

After watching all the TV shows and movies, you’d think that going to the gym would be super smooth and classy like it is for the actors. You should look great the entire time, barely sweat, and manage to flash a super cute smile every now and then. After you finish the workout, you should just stride out of the gym, proud of how in shape you are, right? HA! If only that were the actual case. Let’s be honest, you’ve probably had more bad moments than good ones. Here are a few that you can probably relate to.

1.When you see the guy you’ve been trying to avoid like crazy, every single time! Ithaca is a fairly tiny campus, but of all places to see a guy you’ve been avoiding, it has to be when you’re sweating like crazy and looking like a constipated gorilla? UGH.

2. When all the other poeple around you are benching 15 million pounds, and you’re holding a 10 lb. weight and sweating your face off. You’re so proud of yourself for doing as much as you do, then you look over and someone else is lifting 10x as much twice as fast.

3. When that adorable boy you’ve been checking out sees you at your worst moment. We all know that we have that workout face when our muscles start burning.  Of all times for bae to see you, it has to be then?

4. When you slow down the treadmill to a walking pace while everyone speeds up. You can just feel the vibes of judgment around you while everyone adjusts their treadmill to 7 miles per hour while you’re doing a nice, enjoyable walk.

5. Being the unfit one when working out with friends. “Guys, we’ve done 20 situps, I think that’s enough for now. No? Okay… let’s keep going… yeah, I can keep on going…”

6. Your post-workout walk. You know, practically waddling back to your dorm because you can’t feel your legs/arms/abs/butt/whole body.
