Why Your Parents are the Most Important People in the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

I was blessed to have two wonderful parents. We are lucky to have a roof over our heads, food, health and extra clothes and toys.

By all means we don’t have everything, and I don’t want anything. I’m grateful to have to parents who I love and who love me back.

I know many people who have lost a parent at too young of an age, my dad being one of those people who has lost someone. That’s why we must learn to cherish every moment we have with them, because within the blink of an eye, that may no longer be by your side.

I’ve been told by my friends that my family and I are close, and they’re right. We watch movies together, we go on vacations, and we even do activities like bowling. Yes, family bowling night is a thing.

I hang out with my parents (and brother) because I thoroughly enjoy their company. As a young teenager, I would always butt-heads with my parents, and I would even go on for days without talking to them.

Looking back, it was awful. I had no connection with them. I’d rather be out with my friends, who most of them I don’t even talk to anymore. Your parents are forever, they’re not going anywhere, and I’d rather not see them try.

I’ve learned that my parents are the most amazing people in the world, and the most important people in my life. They’re my biggest supporters. They’re the truth-tellers, the goofballs, the partiers, and the ones I can be myself most with.

Thank you, mom and dad, for showing me that my best friends can be my parents, and I am so lucky to have had you two as them.
