Where Are They Now: Spice Girls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

This generation of collegiates may be the last ever to say that the Spice Girls defined their childhood. Feeling old, huh? Since the official split of the all-girl power-band in 2000, we have only been lucky enough to have seen one reunion tour and a performance at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The girls may not perform together anymore, but each one can be seen staying relevant in the entertainment industry, while somehow managing to actually keep in touch with each other (which makes us fans very happy!)

Melanie Brown (Scary Spice)

Everyone remembers Mel B for the signature leopard print pants and loud persona, but it seems like she has made a much more prominent name for herself since the 90’s. Since the Spice Girls split, this current ambassador of Jenny Craig launched some albums and took television by storm. She placed second on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2007, as well as starring in her own reality show and recently working on “America’s Got Talent” and “The X Factor.” The mother of three can be found constantly posting Spice Girls throwbacks on Instagram. Ah, the nostalgia!

Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice)

With six solo albums since the split, Mel C, the current record holder of second most number-one singles in the United Kingdom by a female, is sticking to her music career. Along with her albums, Sporty Spice has also made a breakthrough in the acting industry. Her role in the musical Blood Brothers earned her a Best Actress nomination, and in 2013, she won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Jesus Christ Superstar. Sometime during her hectic schedule, she manages to take charity trips to Africa and raise her one and only daughter, Scarlet.

Emma Bunton (Baby Spice)

If you were anything like me as a young, blonde child, Baby Spice was your queen, but she has come a long way from her pigtails and baby-doll dresses. After three solo albums and a few television appearances, Emma finally settled down as a co-host on Heart London’s radio show, Heart Breakfast. Along with radio, she also started a kids clothing line. Today, Emma is engaged to the father of her two sons, but she’ll always be seen as the baby to us!

Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice)

Being the first one to leave the group (anyone still holding a sad grudge over that departure or is it just me?), Ginger Spice has kept pretty busy since 1998. Ginger went on to make three solo albums, two autobiographies, documentaries, yoga DVDs, a children’s book, get involved in United Nations work, and design her own bikini line. She also raises a daughter, Bluebell Madonna, to whom Victoria Beckham and Emma Bunton are her godmothers. Adorable!

Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice)

Posh Spice left the Spice Girls only to go on and make herself a household name. More famous now than ever, Victoria is known for being a style icon and the wife of retired “footballer” David Beckham (lucky girl). Whether she is modeling, editing, or running her own line, Victoria Beckham has been the face of fashion for the past seven years. While the world waits to see what her next look is going to be, she is busy raising four kids of her own. I think it is safe to say we all sort of wish we were Posh Spice; am I right?
