If you’re reading this, you’re probably at that crucial point in your college career where it’s time to start interning. As you’ll soon find out, this is an exciting, yet incredibly stressful time in life. I’m not gonna lie, applying for internships can be really difficult but luckily I’m here to fill you in on a few things you should keep in mind during this overwhelming process.

Give Yourself time

Most companies start interviewing candidates as early as 5 months in advance of the actual start date. You don’t want to miss out on anything, so keep this in mind when you start looking for opportunities!

Don’t Limit Yourself

Although you might know you want to work in the fashion industry someday, chances are you might not land a fashion internship on the first try. Be open minded and apply to various industries and opportunities to better your chances of landing a position!

Perfect Your Resume

I’m sure you’ve heard this a million times, but it really is key! Check, re-check, and give your resume to anyone you trust to revise it. Be sure there are NO spelling or grammatical errors and everything is consistent. If you’re not sure how your information should be laid out, make an appointment with the Career Center, or Google it, both are great!

Do Your Research

Once you start hearing from companies, it’s so so so important to do your research. There’s nothing worse than being asked about the company in an interview and you can’t answer it! I typically pick a few facts that I find interesting and commit them to memory!

Dress To Impress

As I’m sure you know, your outfit gives off a first impression too. Obviously, you don’t have to look like you’re attending the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week, but do take the time to put together your outfit and actually brush your hair that morning.

Appy, Apply, Apply

Just remember, the more companies you apply to, the better your chances are of actually landing something. Even if it’s something you’re not 100% sure you qualify for, apply anyway because you never know what the HR person is looking for.

Be Confident

Honestly, you’re going to get a lot of rejections and only a few responses, at least at first. Just hang in there, stay positive and it will all work out!
