Summer Bucket List: 8 Things You Must Do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

It may not seem like the summer is nearby but in roughly 6 weeks you’ll be packing up your dorm, saying goodbye to your college friends and saying hello to all the wonderful things summer has to offer! I hope you’ve been saving up because 3 months is a long time to either adventure or get bored of Netflix shortly into break, the choice is ultimately up to you. This summer think beyond the stereotypical things and branch out, here’s a list to help you get started!

Go Cross Country

From New York to California or Florida to Washington there is a LOT to see! Take a week off with your friends, accompanied by a map and go pin hopping from one location to another and let the fun take care of itself!

See A Big Name Artist

While this option may be pricey we all deserve to treat ourselves at least once. And honestly who knows how long your artist will be around for you to look back in bliss that you saw them on tour!

Conquer One of Your Fears

For most people it’s the fear of heights, in my case its an irrational fear of horses. Whatever it may be, take the baby steps to conquering it and if it still terrifies you at least you can say you tried!

Try a New Outdoor Activity

The summer is all about enjoying the outdoors. You may not be comfortable enough to go windsurfing or waterskiing but go ahead and try kayaking or paddle boarding, you may discover you were actually made for it!

Plan a Childhood Adventure

TBT to summer camp in elementary school, those were the best times! Recreate those moments with your friends by renting a cabin somewhere; zip lining, building a tire swing and whatever else made you happy when you were young.

Read 2 Books A Month

While many of us neglect our brains during the summer it is important to go back to when reading was for leisure and not because you have an analysis paper in a class you have to take to graduate. Go to the beach, pick up a good read and enjoy!

If you need some reference these are my top picks!

Take Your Relationships One Step Further

Whether that means opening up more to your significant other or telling your close friend facts about yourself that may upgrade you to best friends, the summer is the perfect time to let go. No more holding up your guard, its time to progress!

Let Yourself Be Happy

I’ve found that the number only thing holding us all back from our own happiness is us. We tend to get into our heads and reflect in a way that makes us feel undeserving of joy, but none of that this summer. Let yourself feel wholeheartedly and stupidly happy!

All I know is its time to start living, and summer is the perfect opportunity!

Hofstra '17 Hofstra Chapter Vice President (December '16 - December '17) From a young age Naledi has been obsessed with all things pop culture and entertainment. Through writing for Her Campus she has been able to reach a large audience of badass collegiate women who share her crazy passions as well. Beyond Her Campus Naledi is IN LOVE with Hofstra. Her favorite part? The school of comm for allowing her to branch out and get a real dip into the real world prior to graduating. Additionally Naledi is one of those classic people who studies abroad in the spring of 2016 and won't ever stop talking about it! Her best advice? Go and see the world kids and fall in love with your major like Ali and Noah from the Notebook fell in love with each other.
