Thanksgiving weekend is quickly approaching and we all know that that means—food, and lots of it. The holiday season usually involves eating a lot of unhealthy treats and Thanksgiving is like the kickoff of the season. However, we don’t need to let Thanksgiving and all of the other festive holidays ruin our diets completely (maybe just a little). These two tips on staying fit over Thanksgiving weekend will save you when Grandma serves up that third piece of pumpkin pie.

The first step to staying fit over Thanksgiving is to continue working out. I know it can be no fun, especially when you’re surrounded by your family and friends that you haven’t seen in months, but if you want to stay fit you should keep up with at least 25 minutes of exercise a day. You don’t need to hit the gym and do a major workout routine, but you can go for a run around the block. If you have a treadmill or elliptical in your house, you can run on that for about 25 minutes or more to burn so extra calories.

The second and most important thing you can do is to watch your portions when eating. I know that seeing our favorite dishes on display can be tempting to overfill your plate but that’s the worst mistake you can make. It’s better to serve yourself everything in tiny portions so you don’t become overwhelmed and overfill your plate to begin with. Start out small and then if you want to go back for seconds, you totally can!

I hope these two tips help you to stay fit during Thanksgiving. Remember to be thankful for the opportunity to be surrounded by family and friends. And who knows, maybe your healthy habits will rub off to somebody else at the dinner table!
