Photo Recap: Learning from “Women In Power”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Women’s History Month is a time for not only recognizing female accomplishments, but also aspiring to continue such achievements.

In celebration of Women’s History Month on Monday (March 10) , HC Hofstra had the pleasure of co-sponsoring a discussion and networking panel entitled “Women in Power”. Hofstra University’s Association of Black Journalists headed the event, which was also co-sponsored by the Xi Gamma chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc and Hofstra’s chapter of Women of Action.

Female panelists from all aspects of media were in attendance to discuss the challenges they face as black women in the work force.

Sirius XM and WBLS radio personality, Déjà Vu, commanded the room of students and even included props for show and tell.

“Whatever your passion is, go for it now! Don’t wait—-you really have to be ready to seize every opportunity” she exclaimed as she pulled out a mic from her bag, proving that she was always prepared.

The ladies warned about being undermined as a woman and a minority in the workplace. But do you think such successful women don’t know how to get around these setbacks?

“When your work ethic speaks for you, you have the right to go wherever you want to,” said Patricia Robinson, Director of HR at Emmis Communications.

After an hour and half of vigorous conversation, the panelists answered questions, took pictures and networked with the eager and inspired students.

Thank you to HUABJ for allowing us to co-sponsor their panel and to learn from such inspiring #WomeninPower.
