When it gets colder, there’s less moisture in the environment, which causes our skin to feel dry too. Along with cold winds, our skin might lose even more moisture, which may eventually cause the skin to form those dry patches. A few simple changes to your skincare routine can help prepare your skin for the cold weather:
1. Don’t Ditch the Sunscreen
You might not see the sun as much on those cloudy days, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any sunrays going through those clouds. When your skin doesn’t have that moisture barrier, UV rays will damage your skin.
2. Change Your Moisturizer
Try to use a cream instead of a lotion around this type of year, which will moisturize better. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which will rehydrate upper layers of the skin by drawing moisture from the lower layers.
3. Exfoliate Less Frequently
Exfoliating your skin less frequently will prevent any natural oils being stripped away from your skin. If you over exfoliate, chances are you will be left with your skin feeling too tight and dry, which is just too uncomfortable in the winter. Try to limit yourself to exfoliating once or twice a week.
4. Experiment with Oils
Vitamin E, almond, and coconut oil are the most commonly suggested oils to use on your face to recondition your skin. Vitamin E oil is great if you want to fade away any brown spots you may have. Almond oil is great if you want to reduce fine lines. Coconut oil can be beneficial for your eyelashes if you want to grow them naturally too. Just apply a few drops and massage onto your skin. Be sure to wait 5-10 minutes to let the oil soak in.
5. Hydrate from the Inside
The most important thing is to remember to continue to drink more water everyday. The skin is the largest organ of the human body, and it is primarily composed of water, so we constantly need to replenish this supply.
