5 Tips for Improving Your Life in 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

It’s 2017 and while it’s a bit late for New Year’s resolutions (and they might fail anyway) there are always things you can do to make your life what you want it to be. Here are five things you can do to improve your life this year.

1. Meditate daily.

Make meditation a part of your daily routine. If you can’t commit to certain time just do it whenever you can – for example, right before you go to bed. Meditation calms your mind down and helps with concentration and being present in the moment.

2. Change your thoughts.

Be aware of your thoughts. They make your life what it is. You create your own life with your beliefs, thoughts, words and actions. Only you can save yourself, not your neighbor or loved one. You make the decision how you react to things. So try to think positively, make your own power mantra something like: “The best will happen” and you’ll feel much better.

3. Be true to yourself.

What is it that you really want to do, or to be? How do you want to live your life? Listen to your true feelings and act the way you feel is right and good. You are going to have to live with yourself your whole life so why wouldn’t you live the way your soul wants to? Don’t give your own power to someone else. Be yourself.

4. Put into practice The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.

The name of the book says it all, the method really works like a miracle which improves your life and creates the lifestyle you want. If you take time to do this you can get rid of EVERYTHING that doesn’t serve you anymore. How great is that! Clean surroundings make your mind clear too.

5. Don’t take life too seriously.

Take it easy and enjoy what the life brings to you. School wise, done is better than perfect. There’s always new opportunities ahead you. Learn from mistakes, don’t get stuck with them. You are always enough. If something is getting to your nerves try to find a way to think about it positively. Be gracious to yourself.

Remember that you are worthy and loved!
