Finesse Your Fitness: A Review on [solidcore]

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GWU chapter.

DC has so many marketed studios that you cannot miss. There’re the shining signs outside of SoulCycle, the glass windows of Rumble and the patio outside Barry’s. But there’s a studio that is humble just like its workout, known as [solidcore]. Having eight studios around DC, with another one opening on H street, this workout is not to be missed. If you like the long and low, that comes with the shakes, then [solidcore] will hand it to you on a silver platter. Like holy f*ck. Excuse my French, but the whole class I was feeling every muscle in the best way possible. Fully accepting the shakes, here’s the tea, sis:

What’s [solidcore]?

[Solidcore] is a 50-minute workout of slow and controlled resistance training to break down your slow-twitch muscle fibers, as it says on their website. To put it into simple terms, it’s like Pilates group class. The studios have their own version of a reformer, known as the [sweatiana]. They offer all different option for classes, cause you can’t to the same thing all the time. They have beginner classes and full body classes. Like Barry’s, they also have days where they target certain muscles such as arms+abs or buns+guns. There is also an option to take a private session, if group workouts aren’t your thing.

Where do I find [solidcore]?

1255 23rd St NW, Washington, DC 20037

What instructors are we feeling this week?

Rachel S. is someone I love in the way you can only love someone that kicks your ass. She will push your limit while blasting beats to keep you motivated. These moves aren’t easy and it’s really easy to tap out (which I did a few times). She knows what your capable of and keeps you honest. If you are one that needs that extra nudge, Rachel is the ideal coach.

Is it going to break my budget?

It won’t have you go #broke, but it may not be an everyday thang. [Solidcore] regular classes are $37, but student classes are reduced to $26 dollars. If you buy classes in packs they are cheaper per class. For all the first timers, they have a new client deal. Your first 2 classes are $19/class or a 1-week unlimited pack for $49 dollars. So why not because we all need to slow things down and sweat out our bad decisions.

SO, what’s the verdict?

In all honesty I really do love [solidcore]. Their workout is long and low and challenges even the most in shape people. There are modifications to make it applicable no matter what stage of fitness you are. It is the type of workout that gives love to your little muscles, that really need it. I highly recommend it, because you won’t find a workout like this anywhere else. Cause ya know, #selfcare.
