One of my discoveries during this hectic 2020 year, was learning just how beneficial journaling can be. With the fall semester in full effect, on top of worldly issues, I find myself journaling more than ever. Journaling is such a relief from built up tension that maybe only you know about. Twitter is cool but some things are just better left in the drafts, in our case a journal. For those moments when I’m on the go, I write in my notes just as much as the next person. The difference with having a journal is that it allows you to reflect on your thoughts without seeing a random grocery list next to your goals and aspirations.

I like to think ink is forever and hitting a key to delete takes less than a second. Allow yourself to be your most vulnerable self when you write. Having to cross things out in your journal adds character. This lets you look back and remember exactly how you felt in that moment. Journaling should be a space of no worries; It’s just you. No judgements, no opinions, just you and your journal. Maybe play your favorite artists or playlist when you write. Music can definitely stimulate the mind, possibly bringing up nostalgic moments in your life. Music will definitely set the mood for a much needed journal session. Be selfish when you journal, this event is booked with a reservation for one with your name is on it. Sorry not sorry, but this is exclusive business , not even your close friends on insta should be included. Sometimes it’s nice to have moments for yourself, you’ll appreciate the beauty of it. I find the best times to write are when I’m my busiest. Squeezing in a quick entry after a long day of work, working out, or school is just what you need to ease your nerves.

If you find yourself lost on what to write; think about what caused you to smile, laugh or even cry. It’s the little things that are important in our lives. Little things add up to big things and highlighting that in your journal can teach you a lot about yourself. If it doesn’t make you cringe to reread your entries, I’m sure you’ll be surprised with some new self discoveries. Including some of your goals that may seem too big or so small can be a perfect entry. Why limit yourself? Allow yourself to dream as much as you want. You’ll be amazed to see what you’ve accomplished in due time.

Writing can be very therapeutic, I believe there is power in physically writing down exactly how you feel. You could also get really creative and make your journal aesthetically pleasing, if you’re into that, of course. Whatever makes you feel good is the goal! A good way to end your entry could be with a few words of affirmation. If nobody tells you them, why not hear them from yourself?

Colleigetes, remember their will be bad days, but the good ones will always outweigh them! So, grab a pen and a journal and start writing. Not sure where to get one, not a problem, Target has plenty.
