Anxiety is something I’ve struggled with for a long time. While medication has helped me a lot, I still feel at least a *little* bit anxious at basically any given moment. So, I’ve been on the hunt for something I could add to my daily routine to help ease my anxiety a bit more. Enter: CBD oil, the newest addition to my nightly self-care routine.

Cannabidol, better known as CBD, does not contain any THC (the part of a cannabis plant that gets you “high”) and has been found to have many health benefits backed by scientific evidence. According to an article from Healthline, some of the benefits of CBD oil include pain relief, reducing anxiety and depression, reducing acne and more.

I’ve been using CBD oil for a little over a month now and I’ve definitely seen the benefits. The results were not immediate, it took a week or two to start to notice a difference but I’ve already ordered another bottle because it’s helped me feel better than I have in a while. I’ve noticed a change in two areas: anxiety and sleep.

If you’ve never experienced anxiety, it’s difficult to explain — even when it’s something I experience on an almost daily basis. In the month since I started using CBD oil, while I’ve still felt anxious (how could I not with the start of the semester, a global pandemic and all of the other things going on in my life?) I haven’t felt as anxious as before and even when I’m experiencing anxiety, it hasn’t been as severe. Overall, my moods have improved and I’ve felt happier and more energetic.

Another area of improvement I’ve noticed has been my sleep. I’ve always been a restless sleeper as well as having trouble falling asleep and actually staying asleep. While I haven’t noticed much of a difference in falling asleep, I have noticed that I’ve been waking up less frequently in the middle of the night and have had more nights of sleeping without getting up at all.

I definitely still plan to take my anxiety medication daily but I still highly recommend CBD oil if you’re looking for something more natural or need a little something extra to help with anxiety. I’ve personally been using this one, it tastes pretty good and I like that it’s a peppermint flavor so it doesn’t taste weird if I use it before bed when I’m brushing my teeth.
