“New year, new me” is the most common phrase around this time of year. As we are coming to the end of January, I feel as though the majority of people are in full swing with their new year’s resolutions. Sometimes, it can be difficult to stay consistent with your new goals. To combat this, I am here to discuss five of my own personal goals for the new year in hopes to encourage you too!

  1. Personally, 2022 was a difficult year. I feel as though this new year is the perfect time for a fresh start, so I am very optimistic about the future. Because of this, my first goal is to stay positive. Our minds are so powerful and can dictate our mood, so I am trying to maintain a positive attitude in order to stay happy.
  2. Stay organized. This applies to any aspect of my life, but particularly with schoolwork. I have a planner that I use every day, in which I list the daily errands I need to complete. I also use the ‘stickies’ app on my laptop to keep track of my weekly and monthly activities. With this, I can stay on top of everything and feel accomplished once I finish it all. When there is clutter around me –whether a physical mess or mental– it can become difficult to ‘clean up’ and get back into the groove. Thus, starting off this year organized will put you on the right track.
  3. Use my kitchen more. Living in New York, I tend to go out to dinner often, since it is always an easy walk. But, being a college student, I live off of a budget. I live in an apartment off campus, so I am trying to take advantage of this by buying groceries and following recipes to make for myself in my own kitchen. Not only will I be saving money, but I will also be doing something for myself. My current personal favorite is a cucumber and tomato salad, in which I mix it with garlic salt, pepper, olive oil, and white wine vinegar.
  4. Stick to routines. I have never been the type of person who makes morning or night routines, but this year I am going to use them more and I highly recommend it! I have incorporated a similar morning and night routine that I perform when I wake up and right before bed, so I am always starting and ending my days in a fresh way. Besides this, I have also tried to start a daily routine, such as a gym time that I go to every day or a specific time to eat dinner every day. When I have a routine, I feel more calm and motivated to take on the day.
  5. Reserve time for myself. Life can get hectic, and I am the type of person who always has a lot on her plate. While I am staying busy, I can sometimes get too distracted and forget about myself. In order to focus my attention back on myself, I will incorporate some time for myself daily. One of my favorite things to do is read, so before bed I take about 10-30 minutes to read a good book.

These are only five goals, but hopefully they are able to inspire you to create your own. The new year is always a perfect opportunity to get motivated, the tricky part is actually staying motivated. 2023 is going to be our year of motivation!
