I’m awful at keeping up a nighttime routine. Sometimes I’m just so exhausted or lazy that I just jump right into bed, but I feel like my body really thanks me when I stick to my routine. While you definitely don’t need to buy a whole arsenal of products to give you a good night’s sleep, as someone who has trouble falling asleep, following a routine like this helps me unwind and feel accomplished. Sleep is such an important part of our physical and mental health, so making the most of those eight hours is necessary. Here are some of my personal recommendations for what to add to your bedtime routine.

1. Facial Wash

For a lot of skincare, washing your face is the first step. I like to wear makeup on most days out of the weak and clean most of it off with makeup wipes, but many skin experts urge you to thoroughly wash your face after taking off makeup, even if you do use wipes. One of my favorites that I’ve tried is the Skyn Iceland Glacial Face Wash, but from time to time, I like to exfoliate with the e.l.f. Exfoliating Scrub.

2. Face Masks

Face masks are currently one of the first things people think about when they hear “treat yourself.” There’s so many different face masks on the market right now, like mud masks or sheet masks. I’ve been really into mud masks and love my sample of Glamglow’s Supermud Clearing Treatment. The mini size gets you a good amount of use and you can do spot treatments instead of a full mask, so I’d recommend starting there.

3. Moisturizer

As someone with dry, flaky skin, moisturizer makes my face feel so much better. Even if you have oily skin, moisturizer can help bring your oils under control. I use the Neutrogena Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream for Extra-Dry Skin, but there’s another version for normal/oily skin.

4. Lip Care

My lips are also super dry and prone to being cracked. While lip balms and chapstick are helpful throughout the day, it’s nice to do something a little extra overnight. I like to put on some of The Body Shop’s Strawberry Lip Butter for extra hydration.

5. Aromatherapy

When I’m finally ready to settle into bed, the Bath and Body Works aromatherapy line has a bunch of great products to use as my final nighttime routine step. I love the pillow mists, especially the Lavender Vanilla Pillow Mist, designed to help you relax into sleep. There are other scents as well to target different needs, like Eucalyptus and Spearmint for stress relief.
