Gym Makeover

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

Hello lovelies, hope you had a glorious spring break basking on some beach somewhere. Now if you were feeling like your bod wasn’t completely bikini ready like mine, you might be hitting the gym a little more before we head off for beach week. Personally, I gave up soda and not working out for Lent to work off some of those leftover holiday pounds. But while hitting up Brodie and Wilson gyms I’ve noticed we don’t have a lot of creativity or style when working up a sweat on that elliptical. It’s easy to throw on some over sized t-shirt you got for free and your go to running shorts or leggings. But it’s just as easy to mix it up and find active wear that feels socially acceptable outside of the gym.

The easiest way to inject some life into your gym attire is to add some pops of color. Emmy Rossum is rockin some neon here paired with that favorite pair of leggings. I love my bright pink Nike kicks, putting those bad boys on is definitely a perk of going to the gym. But can we talk about how chic Nicole Richie looks? And all she’s done is thrown her hair into a top knot, added a jacket and scarf, and switched out a gym bag for an oversized purse. It’s cold out there ladies, stay warm on the walk to the gym and rock some fun accessories (if I see anymore The North Face jackets I might explode). Lastly we’ve got High School Musical darling Ashley Tisdale steppin out in  (again) those leggings and a statement t-shirt. A little detail or pattern in those basics will get you looking more stylish almost immediately.

I'm a Duke freshman from Davidson, North Carolina. I've got a love for southern sorority fashion but with a hipster twist. Think: Lilly Pulitzer shorts at an Avett Brothers concert. I like to bring a touch of the runway to campus and track trends every season, between papers and hours in the library of course! XO SJH
