Reviewing Sol De Janeiro’s Delícia Drench Body Butter During a Dry Colorado Winter

As a girl who has experienced countless dry Colorado winters, I have come to learn how crucial it is to find and invest in a high quality, moisturizing body lotion to nourish my skin. Because I grew up in Colorado, I’ve become accustomed to the fact that it’s the most important time to have remedies on hand to keep your skin from becoming dry and cracked. I’ve searched high and low for a product that truly moisturizes my skin while not breaking the bank. Although I have found that perfect product for myself, I love trying new lotions to see how they hold up to these infamous Colorado winters. When I heard about the new Sol De Janeiro Delícia Body Butter, I knew I had to get my hands on it and see what the hype is all about.

After receiving a sample of the body butter, I immediately opened it up and gave it a sniff. The first thing that I noticed about this product was that I am absolutely in love with the way that it smells. The Sol De Janeiro website describes the top, mid and dry scents. According to Lili Bermuda, “Usually the main theme of the fragrance will be described as the middle note, or what is also called the “heart” of the fragrance.” The website describes how different levels of scents stick out to us despite being within one perfume. This helped me better understand the breakdown of this particular fragrance. The most notable for me are the vanilla orchid and whipped amber as the mid scents, along with a touch of sheer sandalwood. This perfectly represents the sweet vanilla scent that I picked up on, and the touch of sandalwood adds the perfect amount of warmth to the overall aroma. The smell alone was enough for me to become excited about this product without even applying it to my skin.

When I initially tried the body butter, I simply replaced my other body lotion with it and used it all over after a shower. I want to note that it’s important to recognize that this product is not a traditional lotion and, like the name, is a butter-like consistency, meaning that it is quite thick. Despite the thick consistency, I found that it didn’t take much to cover my body. I like that a little went a long way. This detail is particularly important to me because when investing in a good product, it’s comforting to know that my money is well spent. One thing I specifically noticed about the body butter is that it did not leave me feeling greasy or oily after application. I have found that some lotions often leave me feeling greasy or oily, which I feel attracts more dirt and other miscellaneous debris to stick to my skin, so I appreciate that this product is moisturizing without that feeling.

I gave this body butter a few different tests to see how it held up in different scenarios. The first thing I did was apply the butter after my nightly shower to (1) test how well it moisturizes my skin in my regular routine and (2) see if I noticed any differences in skin softness and scent throughout the next day. The next morning, I noticed that I could still smell the sweet vanilla scent, which was a pleasant surprise. Along with that, my skin also felt extra soft and smooth upon waking up. Throughout the day, my skin remained smooth, but not much different compared to the lotion I use normally. Although the scent faded some as the day went on, there were still hints of vanilla that I could smell here and there. Overall, I enjoyed the scent and the smoothness of my skin, but did not notice a huge difference at the end of the day.

The next day I decided to focus on using the body butter on my arms, since I have slightly textured arms due to a minor case of keratosis pilaris (KP). One of the best things to do in treating KP is to really emphasize moisturizing the affected area to nourish the skin. Sometimes I struggle with this during the winter because my arms tend to become more dry than the rest of my body because of the cold, harsh Colorado air. I once again applied the body butter after my nightly shower and then again the next morning. I found that the butter was very helpful when I focused it on one particular area. My arms remained soft throughout the entirety of the day and I do feel as though it helped with my KP for the day. I believe that if I continued to apply the body butter habitually to my arms, it would help tremendously with my KP because of the thick, moisturizing consistency.

Because I found that focusing the body butter in one place proved to be successful, I decided to try it out as a hand cream the next day. Every morning, I applied a small amount of the body butter onto the back of my hand, and then again as needed throughout the day. I absolutely loved this product for this purpose. Not only did it smell so good on my hands but I really noticed that it made my hands smooth for the entirety of the day and I even noticed a positive effect for days after. I would highly recommend using it this way if you struggle with cracked, dry hands during the winter months. Out of all of the uses I tested for this product, this was by far my favorite.

One of the last factors that I considered is the price point of this body butter. Of course, I was lucky enough to receive samples for free, which means I can be completely honest without trying to convince myself it was worth it based on how much I paid. For my sample, I received a 25 ml container of body butter, which I determined is the perfect size to try it out. A 75 ml container of the Delícia Body Butter is sold for $22. Personally, I find this to be too expensive for the amount of product it contains. Even after all of my tests, I did not run out of product; however, I can get a tub of my favorite lotion with eight times more product for half the price. As someone who uses body lotion very regularly, this is much more sustainable for me and significantly cheaper in the long run. The 240 ml container of lotion, which is full size, retails for $48. Once again, as much as I liked using this product, I can never see myself purchasing this product at that price point.

After using this product for several days, I will say that, overall, I really enjoyed it. I found it to work especially well on my arms and hands. For the rest of my body, I would use it again because of how nice it made me smell, but I have other lotions that do a better job of keeping me moisturized. This, of course, is my personal opinion based on my skin type and other factors such as location and weather. Since my favorite aspect of the Delícia Body Butter was the scent, I would consider buying the body mist in the same fragrance which would likely last me longer and suit my needs better. With all of that being said, I am so happy I got my hands on this product and would place it third on my list of favorite things from Sol De Janerio, following the limited edition After Hours Body Mist and the Sol Cheirosa ‘62
