Artists have always been criticized for some of their actions reflecting their mental health, and how they deal with it. This has caused a lot of artists to open up about their struggles, which is due to the lack of mental health support and being on a constant go for their careers. They have also shown how the people around them are now able to express to audiences how they have seen these artists go through depression and anxiety.

SZA

Within the past five years, SZA has become one of the most well-known artists in R&B, and the music industry in general. SZA has opened up to audiences through her songs and interviews with Billboard about struggling with depression, and how she copes with it by doing things for herself like mediation and having a healthy diet. 

Kehlani

Kehlani has opened up about dealing with suicidal thoughts, and how they affected her. The artist has been very open about this and has created an atmosphere where she has allowed her audience to be able to promote hotlines for audiences to reach out to. Kehlani’s career has allowed her audience to have a view of her life where people are aware and know that it is okay to open up about mental health through speeches about suicide prevention.

Ariana Grande

Depression and anxiety are two struggles that Ariana Grande deals with daily, which is something that she has become very open about with her audience. The artist has expressed in the past that she does believe that people need to take breaks if they are struggling with their mental health. In an interview with Vogue, Grande stated, “I was researching healing and PTSD and talking to therapists, and everyone was like, ‘You need a routine, a schedule.’ ” 

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish has discussed how she has gone through depression both in interviews and in her music. The artist has expressed how her songs have been able to help people who also struggle with their mental health. In an interview Eilish states, “Kids use my songs as a hug,” she said during an interview with Rolling Stone. Overall, her audience is able to heal in a sense, which is something that she has discovered by allowing them to understand that it is okay to not be okay.

Miley Cyrus

This artist had dealt with the issue of constantly being in the spotlight. Eventually, being so young, the artist had to continuously prove that she was both talented and fun at the same time. This led to the artist dealing with anxiety, and panic attacks. Miley Cyrus has opened up about how being under the influence was the only way she felt relaxed. Miley has been able to reflect on her family’s history of mental health issues, and how mental health is a thing many people struggle with.

Each of these artists has shown how much their mental health has affected them, and how they want their audiences to see that there is someone that wants to help them.
