I Tried a Weighted Blanket And Here Are My Thoughts

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Conn Coll chapter.

A few weeks ago I received an email from my dad about weighted blankets. Then, a couple of days later, my mom brings up weighted blankets in a conversation. I get it guys, I am a bad sleeper. I appear to go to sleep very early (10:30 pm or so) but in reality, that is just when the lights get turned off. It can take up to an hour and a half for me to actually fall asleep. The reasons for this range from boredom, stress, anxiety, and restlessness. Once I am asleep, I tend to wake up for two main reasons: 1. I am too hot or too cold. 2. I am moving around too much for my own good. So what is the answer to all of my problems? A weighted blanket.

The blanket I chose to try out is the Sleep Philosophy Premium Soft 60″ x 70″ 12lbs Plush Weighted Blanket from Macy’s. It is very large and extremely soft but most importantly, the weight is evenly distributed throughout the blanket so that none of the beads all slide into one corner. My first impression was wow! This thing is insanely bulky! and then I tried to fall asleep.

I love the blanket while I am awake. It is comfortable, plush, and feels like a large hug. However, this blanket gets HOT! I love being very warm while I sleep but this blanket is too much for me. Also, the weight does prevent some of my movement which sadly tends to wake me up. All and all, I love this blanket, just not for bed.  Next time I will definitely purchase the cooling version!

Have you tried a weighted blanket? Maybe different physical sleep aids? Let us know in the comments!
