5 Skincare Products You Wished You Started Using Earlier

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Concordia CA chapter.

Last summer, I realized that my beauty regiment consisted mostly of washing my face, some days, and moisturizing with whatever cream was available. It was not “horrible”, but my skin was definitely not at his best. So, I decided to take skincare more seriously. After countless trips to the drugstore and Amazon prime orders, I found a list of gems that I believe every girl’s skin can benefit from. Thank me later!

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil literally saved my life. A couple of months ago I developed adult acne and it ravaged my soft, perfect face. I tried pretty much everything and anything to dry out the break-outs and prevent further pimples from forming and nothing worked like tea tree oil. Essentially, it is used to prevent breakouts. Once it cleared my face, I started using it routinely to prevent any pimples or bumps from resurfacing. It is perfect for the girl who is acne prone or wants to be extra careful about the possibility of undesirable pimples forming. You can find bottles for affordables prices at Pharmaprix (mine costed less than $15) or buy it from the known brand, The Body Shop. It’s also available in face washes and scrubs!

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

This is the most expensive item in the list, but it is so, so worth it! The DHC company sells many high quality skincare items, but this is the one you want to invest your coins in. The oil is meant to be used as a makeup remover. It MELTS it away! Three pumps, minimal circular motions, rinse and you’re done. If your makeup is more of a full-face, you can add some makeup wipes to the routine, but it is not necessary. The cleansing oil takes every bit of your makeup away without the need for extra makeup removers’ products (e.g. eye-makeup remover, cotton pads, wipes, etc.). You will not have to worry about residue of makeup clogging your pores! Do not be intimidated by the price; if you do not wear makeup often, a bottle can last you months.

Mario Badescu Rose Water Mist

Mario Badescu’s line is affordable, refreshing and feels so good on the skin. The spray can be used for literally everything: as a toner, a setting spray, moisturizer. You can use it as a little pick-me-up during the day when your skin feels dry. A few pumps guarantee you an instant glow and moisture. I have tried it on many people with different skin types and they’ve all loved it. The official website swears it is suitable for all skin texture! The price is also pretty hard to beat for an item that is so versatile.

Lubriderm Unscented Lotion

This is a body moisturizing cream, but I use it only for my face. It is so hydrating! The Lubriderm brand is dermatologist approved and carries different moisturizers for all kinds of skin. I personally recommend the “Normal to Dry” formula. I find it gives just enough moisture without leaving you feeling overly dewy. It also is extremely affordable. You can find the lotion at your local Jean Coutu or Pharmaprix for less than $10.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Face Cream

This product is a gem for anyone who tends to have extreme dry skin (like me). I literally cannot leave my face without any moisture for more than two minutes or it will start flaking. This product feels like a bucket of refreshing water poured onto my face. It usually costs anywhere from $17 to $25 depending on the vendor. Scouting for sales in Jean Coutu is your best bet at snatching this face cream for a small cost. Do not worried about the size of the container; a little goes a LONG way.

P.S I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who has oily skin or tends to get oily during the day as this cream has the potential to worsen your situation.
