Virtual Dance Classes to Keep you Moving During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Coastal Carolina chapter.

While everyone is stuck in the house, it is nearly impossible to stay in shape and keep up your normal schedule. For all my fellow dancers missing their regular weekly classes, or anyone in need of an artistic outlet during this stressful time, I have compiled some information on how to access live virtual dance classes from established dance professionals.

Debbie Allen, famous dancer and star on Grey’s Anatomy, is hosting global virtual classes through her studio, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. You can register for her $3 “Virtual Dance World” classes on the studio website here or find more information about free Instagram live classes on these Instagram accounts: @therealdebbieallen @officialdadance

Joffrey Ballet School has been periodically posting free Instagram live classes featuring their world-renowned choreographers and teachers. Check out their Instagram page @joffreyschool to find information about upcoming classes.

Broadway Dance Center of New York City will be hosting live classes on their mobile app. Classes through BDC are $12 for a drop-in rate.

The Rockettes will be offering weekly free classes on Instagram Live. For more information, visit their Instagram account @therockettes

Tiler Peck is a principal dancer at New York City Ballet. While her city is in shutdown, she is offering free Instagram live ballet classes as well as stretch and workout instructional videos. You can access these videos through her Instagram page @tilerpeck

Various college dance teams have come together to host weekly free Instagram classes in the Pom, Hip Hop, and Jazz styles. Different Colleges post videos every week so connect with your local schools for details on who is teaching when.

Break the Floor Productions will be hosting a free virtual dance convention and competition April 18-19. Visit their website here to register for the convention and be sure to reach out to your local studio director for more information about the competition.
