Movement has always been a cornerstone of my identity and well-being; I love any and all types of workouts, including heart-pumping cardio, weightlifting, and calming yoga sessions.

I joined Chapman’s track and field team this semester, which has massively transformed the way I approach my goals on and off the field. Besides track, I performed in Chapman’s student-run dance showcase during the fall, and I like to take dance classes whenever I can. Because of my athletic passions, I’ve accumulated many activewear garments that consume large sections of my closet. Some of these pieces suit my track workouts, while others are better for low-impact workouts such as pilates and hiking.

How to find the right activewear for you

With a large selection of activewear brands and styles to choose from, it can feel daunting to select the right pieces for your goals and preferences. Luckily, you can find clothes for almost any type of activity without sacrificing your budget. If you primarily enjoy running and HIIT workouts, investing in a few pairs of high-quality sports bras isare crucial for providing breast support and reducing tissue damage that can come with intense exercise. For “low-impact” exercise, or physical activity that minimizes joint pressure, sports bras with lighter compression levels could support your body during these workouts. Proper activewear should complement a workout’s physical demands while giving you a chance to express your own personal style.

Without further ado, here are some activewear staples that can help you crush your next workout with style.

LuLULEMON ENERGY BRA

Lululemon is often touted as a quintessential activewear brand that sells a range of athletic and athleisure garments. In particular, I’ve been loving their Energy Bra for high-intensity track workouts. This bra is sweat-wicking, incredibly breathable, and comes in a wide variety of colors. A slightly modified version of the design supports cup sizes from B-G; this bra has thicker crossover straps in the back, providing extra support and compression. If there’s another reason to snag this style, I can tell you that I’ve run some of my best track races with this bra; it’s an unsung hero that hides under my uniform!

Tracksmith

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or have recently started your running journey, Tracksmith supplies some of the best garments and accessories specifically designed for running. These products are often lauded for their luxurious fabrics, durability, and visual appeal. I love pairing the Session Shorts and Run Bra for a comfortable yet stylish look. For chilly weather, I recommend wearing the Chiltern Jacket with the Turnover Tights (despite its name, these “tights” are actually leggings specifically designed for enhancing thermoregulation); both of these designs promote breathability for cold-weather conditions and contain strategically-placed pockets along the body. It’s worth noting that some of these garments are on the pricier side, so you may want to invest in a few pieces that you know you’ll wear frequently.

Popflex Pirouette Skirt

You might’ve seen the Popflex Pirouette Skort dominate your social media feeds due to Taylor Swift wearing a lavender version of the skort in a promotional YouTube shorts video (in fact, the lavender skort was sold out mere days after its appearance on the singer). I’m happy to announce that the now-iconic skirt lives up to the hype; it is made with an elegant mesh fabric and comfortable waistband, comes in 16 different colors, and will make you feel like a princess the second you wear it. Its sizes range from XXS-3X, and you can also choose to buy a slightly longer version of the skort. You can wear the skort to play pickleball, take a hot girl walk, or dance (I find that this skort gives me the confidence to dance my best!). Popflex also sells other athleisure pieces to suit women of all sizes and backgrounds.

Once you find your perfect color(s), make sure to twirl!

Five Dancewear

Originally starting as a dancewear company targeted for young competitive dancers, Five Dancewear has expanded its repertoire to include women’s activewear. Of course, you can wear these garments to dance classes and practices, but they can also be worn for other athletic activities. For dancing and lower-impact workouts, I love wearing the Maverick Bra since it offers a unique design that stands out from my other outfits. Despite its aesthetic quality, the top can be slightly flimsy and may not provide adequate support for larger cup sizes. If you’re looking for a top with more structure, the Real Tank can complement all of your workout needs. They also sell snug-fitting shorts in over 20 colors, baggy sweatpants, and branded sweatshirts. Despite its name, Five Dancewear is incredibly versatile and will always ensure that you’re the best-dressed person in the gym (or studio, or court, or literally anywhere else)!

Chapman '28

I am so excited to write for Her Campus! This has been my dream for several years and I look forward to sharing my work with all of you.

Although I now reside in Southern California, I’ve been loyal to the East Coast for most of my life. I spent my childhood in Pennsylvania before attending the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in the bustling streets of NYC. During my time at FIT, I studied fashion design and had the privilege of learning from some of the industry’s top fashion educators. After my freshman year, I took the risk of moving over 2,700 miles away from my hometown to attend Chapman University.

At Chapman, I am currently an English major and psychology minor (I find the human mind very fascinating!). I am also involved in Chapman’s University Honors Program and love taking interdisciplinary classes that challenge my perspectives. My work has been featured in Chapman’s honors magazine and I hope to continue publishing my work. Besides writing, I also love expressing my creativity through drawing, dancing, and playing the piano.

When I’m not taking classes or hanging out in Chapman’s library, you will find me running on the track. After completing a walk-on tryout during my first semester here, I am now a member of Chapman’s track and field team. I work tirelessly to become the best athlete I can be and I love every minute of it.

I love using the little free time I have left to travel, read, go shopping, and simply binge watch my favorite television shows on the couch.
