Who are the PR girls?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

They are responsable for taking care of all the bureaucracy of the Public Relation students. Get to know them here!

Why did you choose Public Relations as your major?

I have always wanted to work in the culture area, because I have an artist father, a writer uncle and filmmakers cousins. I looked for majors that would be helpful to me to work in the “backstage” of this universe. The Cultural Production Major really enchanted me at that time (2012), but I wanted something less specific that could open another options to me with the years. Then, I thought in Administration, but I quickly give it up, after realized about “Financials I, Financials II… Financials III” in the curriculum. (I think it is very beautiful, but I could not cross the bridge when I come to it, rs).

In this way, a found Public Relations with some of my cousin’s friends. They thought I had the right profile to the area. Therefore, I searched a lot and loved everything I saw, mainly, the possibility to work in the culture area. Today, I want Public Relations to work with culture and the third sector.

What do you most like about your major and future occupation?

I like its diversity of performance areas and the big vision we should have to take care of a space, understanding the publics, the organizations and the relations.

How long have you been working at the Public Relations Coordination?

I’ve been working there for a year.

How is working there?

I really enjoy working at the Coordination, because I have the possibility, besides the work I am doing here, to know the senior students and, in this way, go along with them with their “TCC” works. I also enjoy de opportunity to know better and create a good relation with all the professors, asking questions, talking about curiosities and knowing better the market and even their routine with them.

What do you most like there?

I like the possibility of make networking.

In your opinion, what are the things this internship is offering you for future experiences?

It is helping me to improve my patience (rs), communications, relationships, the capacity of working with events and knowing better some Institution bureaucracy. The growth here is big, even with the fact that we are not working directly with what Public Relations teach us (in a market view, of course), but this internship creates the possibility for us to improve ourselves in skills and perceptions that will make a big difference in the market. As examples, the dress code; the right manners to speak with the boss, co-worker, client and other many things.

For you, what was the biggest responsibility that they had ever given to you? Why?

The event PRATICOM (Communication Practices). It is a huge event for the Public Relations course, it was the first of this model that I ever took care, so I felt insecure by creating the follow-up, sending the e-mails without the responsible teacher approval, and I was ashamed in the moment I had to make questions. It was a complicated process for me at the time. Now, things are much simpler.

Why did you choose Public Relations as your major?

I chose Public Relations because it is a very versatile and large occupation. Besides this fact, I realized that I have been doing many of the RP functions at school. After many research and cogitate some other majors like Engineering and Pharmacy, PR fit as glove to me.

What do you most like about your major and future occupation?

What I most enjoy in my major is the possibility to connect myself to the corporate world of the Public Relations, since the first year of college. Besides the general knowledge about people. The PR is a professional capable of mediate relations and ensure the company’s image and reputation, and this is not only important for the company itself.

How long have you been working at the Public Relations Coordination?

Since the end of the last September.

How is working there?

I like to work at the Coordination, because it is a peaceful place, with good people and it gives me the opportunity to straight my relations with the professors, besides I am able to learn how a work environment functions.

What do you most like there?

I like the freedom I have to expose my opinions, suggest changes and the nice and welcoming place.

In your opinion, what are the things this internship is offering you for future experiences?

The Coordination gives me the notion of responsibility, deadlines, networking and good manner in a work environment.

For you, what was the biggest responsibility that they had ever given to you? Why?

The biggest responsibility I had at the Coordination was the application of a substitute exam for my seniors, because the professor had some commitments and we were in a “TCC” banking. It was a very tense moment, I was very intimidated, but, in the end, everything was just fine.

Why did you choose Public Relations as your major?

I chose Public Relations, because besides the identification I felt with the communication area, I love to be next people e for our future occupation this is essential. We have to know all the publics of organizations and, therefore, all the theory we have in collage is not sufficient, we need to be close and interact with them. In addition, what most enchants me in the PR area, one of our functions is to make people feel fine about working in a certain place and it does not matter what activity he/she does.

What do you most like about your major and future occupation?

In the graduation, I like the exchange of knowledge provided with discussions, speeches and classes I have. And what I most like in the occupation is the “PR look”. We are observers, strategic people and we make easier all the processes, in a dynamic way, to obtain the desired results. It is as they say “the look that saw and prevent everything.”

How long have you been working at the Public Relations Coordination?

Six months.

How is working there?

I love it! It is good the proximity with the professors and the professionals acting in the market. We have the opportunity to strengthen talks that, in many times, the classes do not allow, because of its limit time.

What do you most like there?

The casual environment! The professors are very welcoming and open to any kind of talk. All the time, there are people entering, laughing and talking, mainly after the classes end. People stay in the Coordination because they feel very good here and this is what most gives me pleasure here.

In your opinion, what are the things this internship is offering you for future experiences?

The coordination teaches how to be responsible and how to have commitment, two essential qualities in the professional life. The diary contact with professors and students generates lots of knowledge, not only about the techniques of the PR, but also about the relationship you create with people and ability to handle them with all their peculiarities, what it’s primordial for out acting area.

For you, what was the biggest responsibility that they had ever given to you? Why?

The planning and the attention with the PR course events. In these occasions, we contact big names of our area and we have to guarantee the quality of the event for the speakers and the public. The “TCC” is administered with the professors, and it is very important, because many of the students’ necessaries are our responsibilities.
