You may have seen Matt on stage during Thursday night Improv, but there is more to him than just humor. In his free time, Matt likes to “climb trees, read Shakespeare, sit by the pool and feel the sun slather my skin… oh, and hang out with my beautiful girlfriend.”
Something most people do not know about Matt is that he does many impersonations; “I can do Davy Jones from Pirates of the Carribean, Bane from The Dark Night, Sean Connery, and the old woman worm from the chocolate episode of SpongeBob.” Matt spends his time in the shower perfecting his impersonations. However, he claims this is not the only interesting thing about him, “I only have one earlobe and you would never know it unless I told you!”
Matt is very involved on campus. As a leader for the Jewish Hillel Club, he helps out with Jewish related events. He also has an on-campus job where he works as a photographer and videographer for the Cal Lutheran Marketing Department, taking photos and videos to help create the school’s image online.
The Cal Lutheran Improv Troupe performs in the Preus-Brandt Forum on certain Thursday nights. Matt is a member of the troupe. “I love performing in front of a lot of people, most exciting thing I’ve ever done – next to trying to catch a raccoon in a butterfly net, but that’s another story entirely,” said Matt. You may wonder what kind of work (if any) goes into the making of these hilarious Thursday nights. Matt said, “You got to be your plain old wacky self. We rehearse on Tuesday nights and right before shows, we just go over what the games are but we come up with material on the spot and we have to be creative!” The next show is in two weeks; so make sure to go see Matt in the Improv Troupe!
Since Valentine’s Day is this weekend, Matt decided to let us inside on his plans for the special day! Matt said he is going to spend Valentine’s Day with, “My beautiful, lovely, funny, smart, courageous girlfriend (courageous because I am a tiger, she needs all the courage to date me!).” Matt’s plans for the day consist of “presents, hikes, and Disney movies (with pizza, of course!).”
