Her Campus Cal Lutheran: How does being a Campus Cutie make you feel?
Desiree Lim: I really don’t know how it makes me feel!
HC: Where is your favorite place on campus?
DL: I love being at the cross. It’s just really quiet and tranquil there, and the scenery is absolutely beautiful.
HC: What is your favorite TV show?
DL: I really don’t watch TV actually. I didn’t grow up watching much TV, and I guess it’s just a personal preference… I don’t really like it.
HC: If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?
DL: I’d have to say quiet. I’m an introvert, and generally don’t enjoy talking. Listening to people is more my preference.
HC: Tell me about Canada. How long did you live there?
DL: I lived in Alberta for 6 years, and then Toronto for 3 years. Then we moved to California for my dad’s work. So technically… I’m still a Canadian citizen!
HC: What’s your favorite part about being a freshman?
DL: You’re allowed to make mistakes, and just kind of be lost either literally or symbolically.
HC: Describe how college is different from high school for you.
DL: It definitely makes me feel more independent, and it’s challenged me in a lot more ways than I thought it would. Not just academically, but socially, spiritually, all that.
HC: How does being an Education major play into your college experience? Why Education?
DL: Well I’ve always loved teaching. I used to tutor at my library back home, and loved helping teach in the Sunday school at my church. I specifically want to teach English to Spanish speaking students, so ESL.
HC: Do you have any siblings?
DL: I have an older sister who is the complete opposite of me, personality wise. She loves being in front of the camera, and I like being behind it so when we were little we would do mini photoshoots. It was fun!
HC: What are you hoping to accomplish in your first year of college?
DL: Probably just trying things that I would have never tried back home.
HC: What is your favorite season?
DL: Fall. It’s cold enough to wear jeans and cozy sweaters, but you don’t have to deal with snow just yet. Moving from Toronto winters to California is definitely a plus in my book!
HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
DL: I want to teach abroad for a couple years. I want to go to all of the countries in the world, but that’s kind of impossible! So I don’t really know yet.
HC: What is your favorite band or genre of music?
DL: I primarily listen to Christian music.
HC: What are your hobbies?
DL: I love reading and baking… cakes mostly!
