How To Survive Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cabrini chapter.

Meet with your professors

Office hours are a blessing for finals week, even if you haven’t used them all semester. Go over a draft of a final paper or the material for the exam. Trust me, your GPA will thank you.

Plan out your schedule

As silly as it may seem, writing things down and scheduling study times will help you stay on top of your work and keep you on track so you’re not waiting until the last minute to do work. It will also help you not feel so overwhelmed or accidentally forget to do something.

Go to the gym

Exercise helps relieve stress and increase endorphins in the brain, which make you happy. It will help lower your stress level and allow you to focus on keeping your body healthy.

Sleep

I know it seems impossible! But don’t let it be your last priority. If you want to perform well on exams you’re going to need sleep to focus on the questions and not on how tired you are.

Change study locations

Don’t camp out in the library all day or stay locked in your dorm. Take your laptop and books and sit outside. The sunshine will brighten your mood and the fresh air will sharpen your mind. No one wants to be cooped up inside all day.

Don’t isolate yourself

Study with friends, even if you’re not doing work for the same class. It’ll remind you that everyone is in the same boat of finals-week craziness. You’re not the only one stressed out.

Eat healthy

It is so easy to stress eat your entire snack bin away or order pizza every night. Fruits and vegetables are better to keep from feeling sluggish from all the junk you’d rather be eating.

Slowly pack up your dorm

Start small with wall decorations and small items you won’t be needing until you get home. It’ll help remind you that the week of mental torture is almost over and summer is close. You also won’t be scrambling around and misplacing important items in boxes.
