What I Hope to Get Out of My Spring Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

Fall semester was a whirlwind of fun adventures, numerous assignments, and meeting new people. That’s what fall semester is all about–a new beginning. But, here we are now, the first few weeks of spring semester, and I find myself in a slump of emotions, stress, and below freezing temperatures. I can’t seem to shake the negative feelings just yet. In order to jump-start the semester, I decided to ask myself: what do you want to do, see, and feel this semester?

I want to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way. Whether that’s an internship, a fun shopping day, or a day at a museum, I want to say yes to doing so much more than I did last semester. I want to actually go to the events I see on Facebook and I want to experience all that Boston has to offer.

I want to see the historic sites that are scattered around the city! I want to take time to dive head first into the history of Boston. From walking the freedom trail to volunteering with local businesses, I plan to educate myself outside of the classroom more often this semester.

I can’t wait for it to be just a little bit warmer so that my friends and I can start walking along the Charles again. I can’t wait to feel the warming rays of the sun on my skin yet again. I can’t wait to smell the aromas of springtime – although I could do without the impending doom of allergies. I will admit, the smell of fires burning through chimneys and the crispness of the below-freezing air does add a sense of comfort to my daily walks, but I cannot wait to be in a skirt and sunglasses yet again.

The longer days give hope to happier weekends when there is more to do outside. Endless days at the Commons with never-ending iced teas and books to read. I’m looking forward to the feeling of pure bliss while laying down on the grass just listening to the world around me, soaking in the sun rays, realizing just how lucky I really am.

I hope I can feel comfortably uncomfortable in these new endeavors I’m about to embark on. I hope I can learn to embrace change and welcome it with open arms. I hope I grow more these next few months than ever before.

Most importantly, I hope everyone else grows along with me. I hope the world continues to grow and learn to love without borders. I want to see the world become such a beautiful place, one that no one could ever imagine leaving.

The first few weeks of the spring semester can drag on. However, soon enough there will be longer days and brighter skies. Dear spring semester, please be good to me.
