Quest for the Best Acai Bowl: Week One

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

I’m on a mission to find the best acai bowl in Boston, Massachusetts. Every week I will be uploading a review of an acai bowl from different places so you can slurp on the best bowl around and save your money on the ones you should skip.

Today I ordered an acai bowl from Energize, a Juice and Salad Bar that was recommended to me by two friends (what a good sign). I ordered the bowl from UberEATS, a delivery service Energize is linked with, and the bowl came within 20-25 minutes — for those who order online regularly, you know that that is an impressively quick arrival. They are also linked with another delivery service, Grubhub.

I went with their regular Acai bowl (the most popular), but they had several smoothie bowl options including Super Acai, Green Matcha, Cashew Cheesecake, and a Coffee Bowl. All of them sounded incredibly enticing, especially with their nutrient-dense ingredients. The ingredients in the regular Acai bowl are acai, coconut milk, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, banana, avocado, and agave, with a topping of strawberries, banana, granola and bee pollen. How many more antioxidants could you ask for? On top of this there is a grand array of superfoods you can add to the bowl. Out of the very long list of add-ons (what a plus), I chose honey, hemp seeds, and chia seeds, each with an additional cost but this added charge is common among juice bars. All the smoothie bowls have a base price of $9.25 except for the Super Acai bowl which is $14.00. This price varies with add-ons.

Turns out those friends were more than right — this bowl was indescribably delicious and that says a lot being that I’m very picky. The texture was silky smooth and the honey gave it a savory, yet sweet composition. Would I order the bowl again? Absolutely, but I must say I did order this bowl about two weeks ago and the bowl wasn’t as good. It was very watered down the first time I had it which makes me question their consistency. This may be a hiccup that won’t reoccur, but I’ll defiantly be ordering again in the future to confirm that with you fellow acai lovers.

On another note, their mission statement is very reassuring as it goes, “Today most people are overfed, and yet undernourished. Energize’s founding goal was to create a health oasis where people from all walks of life can stop by and rejuvenate with clean, nutrient-dense and nutrient-diverse foods.” Evidently, they care about their consumer’s health and have helped to boost it by making such “nutrient-dense and nutrient-diverse foods” so delicious.

Overall my experience with this bowl was a 10/10 and I would recommend this place to my friends.
