Pavement Coffeehouse is back at Boston University after being closed last semester for repairs and renovations!

A few weekends ago, my friends and I braved the bitter cold to get breakfast from Pavement. It was so packed we couldn’t even get a table! It’s easy to tell that this cafe is a favorite among students – many were studying and hanging out with their friends.

I ordered the “Presto! Pesto!” bagel sandwich on a rosemary-salt bagel, served with eggs, cheddar, avocado, and sundried tomato pesto. It was delicious and the perfect balance of savory and spice – I highly recommend it!

Some of Pavement’s other specialties include fresh-made bagels, with customizable sandwich options starting at only $5.50. They also have a variety of classic pastries like croissants, scones, and muffins as well as a huge drink menu. I’m not much of a coffee person, so next time I go, I definitely want to try the “Chaider.” The drink is described on their menu as: “local apple cider with a splash of chai, served iced or hot.”

I much prefer the location of Pavement over other bagel and coffee shops on campus – like Einstein Bros. It’s much less claustrophobic inside, with the main seating area nicely separated from the order counter. Others seem to agree.

“I like the cute atmosphere,” said Peyton Bliley, a student at Boston University. “And the seating doesn’t feel cramped.”

Plus, the shop is at street level, so you get wonderful natural light and a view of Commonwealth Ave. Unfortunately, Pavement doesn’t take BU dining points, but the drink prices are comparable to Starbucks. The sandwiches are a bit pricey, but the quality makes them worth the cost.

Pavement Coffeehouse is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located at 736 Commonwealth Avenue, right next to the BUild Lab entrance.

Go check Pavement Coffeehouse out if you haven’t already!
