The Five Best Ways To Plan for the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

The holiday season is truly a magical time of year. It goes from one holiday to another, which means you get a few days off here, then a few weeks off there… kind of. I get so excited about this time of year because we have Thanksgiving right around the corner; Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. Then comes Christmas and New Years! The holidays are a very exciting time, but they can honestly be a little overwhelming. Here are some effective ways to prepare for the holidays!

Finish all of your homework ahead of time

I know that it is hard to plan in advance, but getting all of your homework and stuff on your to-do list done will really pay off. When you’re home for the holidays, you are either running around trying to see everyone or you’re relaxing and doing absolutely nothing. Either way, you want to be able to enjoy this time, and not have to worry about finishing an assignment.

Let yourself eat whatever you want

The holidays are a break from your normal routine. You need to treat yourself a little. Allow yourself to eat whatever you want and enjoy yourself! You can start your diet or healthy lifestyle back up once break is over!

Pack more cozy clothes than you anticipate you’ll need

I don’t know about you, but when I’m home I live in my pajamas or sweats. I only get dressed when I have to leave the house. You only need a couple of cute outfits, as you can mix and match tops and bottoms. Let yourself enjoy lounging in sweats for as long as possible.

Try to reduce stress levels

The holidays can be stressful for lots of people. Having to spend time with extended family or going to events with people from your past you don’t want to see doesn’t really scream relaxing. If you know you are going to have to do this, make sure you also do things that keep you calm and zen. Maybe go to a yoga class or get yourself some hot cocoa and mentally prepare yourself.

Just have fun!

Whatever your holiday plans may be, just make sure you are making the most of them and doing things that you enjoy doing. Allow yourself to stray away from negative thoughts or even going to events that you really don’t want to. This is the time to be with the ones you want to be with, so only surround yourself with those who make you happy. Let your hair down and allow yourself to have some fun!

I hope that this list will help you prepare for the holiday season. It’s important to do what works best for you in order to have the most enjoyable time with your friends and family. Wishing you all a very fun and safe holiday season!
