A household staple and a favorite around the world is none other than bread. The one food that can never fail you — seriously, how could you ever go wrong with bread!? Though bread may be seen as a “blank slate” kind of food, there is such a wide array to choose from that it is impossible to go wrong.

As someone who could eat bread for every meal if she could, I’ve tried plenty of different types. In my (non-professional) opinion, here is my ranking for the top five best breads I’ve eaten (so far).

Focaccia

Coming in at number five, we have focaccia. Although not something that I will immediately grab over the others on this list, it has still earned its place. There is just so much you can do with focaccia; it can hold so many flavors depending on what you decide to top your loaf with. Whether you do an assortment of olives and olive oil, or make it a masterful art piece, each focaccia loaf comes out unique and flavorful.

Sourdough

Next up is sourdough. Not only a staple but a classic; there is just no way you could ever go wrong with sourdough. Whether you dress it up with some butter and honey or eat it toasted on its own, every bite of this bread leaves you wanting more. There is no more to say on sourdough besides that you simply cannot live without it.

Ciabatta

In third place, we have ciabatta loaves. Ciabatta bread features the perfect mix of crispy and fluffy; a crispy crust that has the perfect crunch with each bite, filled with a fluffy, airy inside. Enjoy as your sandwich base or toasted on its own, and savor the feeling of perfection in your mouth.

Pita

Pita

This may be a personal bias due to my Greek heritage, but pita is a staple in my grocery rotations. I could eat a piece of pita bread with almost any meal: pasta, salad, steak, anything! You name it, and I’ll find a way to include pita bread with it. This bread has a perfect, fluffy texture, plus an agreeable flavor palette that can work with anything. Pita bread is, perhaps, one of the most perfect breads out there.

Baguette

Finally, coming in at the number one spot, my personal favorite: baguettes. I would simply do anything to eat a baguette at any time of the day. My love for baguettes is so strong that I was even gifted some for my high school graduation — that’s how much I just love baguettes. I would eat a whole baguette every week if I could. They pair so well with anything, even themselves. When it comes to bread, baguettes can’t be beat.
