On my aimless walks around Boston, I feel the wind coursing through my hair as the tip of my nose gets cold. My fingers grip the tips of my sleeves, but I am refreshed by the brisk air. The summer glow of my once sun-tanned complexion fades into a pale, rosy, smiling face.

Being from New York City, there are always big expectations of a winter wonderland during the holiday season. I’m a firm believer that when you’re familiar with a certain place, you tend to appreciate your surroundings less. Needless to say, I don’t remember ever truly taking in the the fall season in its entirety.

This is my first fall in Boston. It’s also my first time noticing the leaves that are half green, half red. It’s my first time appreciating my clammy hands being cooled off by a crisp breeze.

I’m not the biggest fan of the cold, but lately, I’ve been enjoying getting my daily hot latte on my way to class. It’s cinnamon and pumpkin spice season, and I’m all for it.

It’s the time of year when my extensive collection of jackets is finally being put to use. My headphones pump out my groovy tunes while keeping me warm like makeshift earmuffs.

I’ve been taking the scenic route to my classes, strolling through Brookline with the intent of looking at all the trees, the leaves, and the beauty. I’ve also been sitting against a tree and reading, really taking the time to slow down and keep my peace during this busy time of the semester.

As of right now, I’m not focusing on the early sunsets, but rather on the cool nights that I spend wandering around Boston.

The days may be getting shorter, but I am appreciating every moment of this Boston fall.
