Going to college can already be stressful, let alone during a pandemic. If there’s anything I’ve realized during this odd time, it’s how important it is to take care of yourself —especially mentally. Here are some comfort shows that I turn to during my mental health days.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix)

I feel like we all have that one show from our childhoods that we just never got over. For me, that show is Avatar: The Last Airbender. This show aged so well, and it’s my go-to when I’m feeling nostalgic. I loved it as a kid, and as an adult, I now appreciate the cultural representation and incredibly intricate, yet palatable, and easy to understand storyline.

The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)

The Great British Baking Show, also called The Great British Bake-Off, is the friendliest competition show I have ever watched. I’m always learning new things about cooking from this show (that I will probably never apply), and the hosts are funny in a cheesy way that’s actually kind of charming. The show also has multiple spin-offs! One of which is a masterclass where judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry show viewers how to make some of the foods from the show. The best part of this show is that it’s still happening, and right now, Netflix is releasing a new episode from collection eight every Friday!

K-On! (Netflix, Crunchyroll)

This one is for my fellow anime fans. K-On! is actually a slice of life manga that was made into a successful anime. It’s one of the cutest shows I’ve ever seen. The storyline is about a group of high school girls who form a Light Music Club and it follows their daily interactions with each other, friends, classmates, and families during their time as members. They also have a spin-off movie where the band takes a trip to London and ends up performing there, which is also available on Netflix!

The Good Place (Netflix)

I had to watch a couple of episodes of this show last year for a class, and once I started watching, I was hooked. This is the show I turn to when I’m looking for a good laugh and a thought-provoking storyline. I never seem to get tired of The Good Place because of all the crazy plot twists. It’s definitely a must-watch if you’re into fun, feel-good comedies.

Queer Eye & Queer Eye: We’re in Japan! (Netflix)

This show is so wholesome, and it 100% deserves all of the hype it gets. The Fab Five are so inspirational and unapologetically themselves, and they definitely win the hearts of the people they help—and viewers like me—every time. What I love about this show is how unafraid they are to tackle difficult social issues, while staying sensitive towards the issue at hand. What the Fab Five do for people is truly is more than a makeover, and lives are changed forever.

Take care of yourself, and make sure to drink some water (and maybe turn a TV show on to chill out)!
