“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald.

You may be surprised when seeing F. Scott Fitzgerald describe fall in The Great Gatsby. In fact, many of us take it as an irony as we reckon life becomes “crisp” when it comes to the dawn of spring. While the pandemic left our college life in isolation limbo, we can still take a sip from this season.

Here’s what I suggest you should do to fully embrace spring this season.

Spray perfume around your room

The tedious pace of online university—streaming classes, Greek life, and doing projects—stirs up a frustrating monotony, leaving you tired of sitting in front of your laptop for three-hour long labs. Instead of snacking on a bag of chips or chatting with your friends to not be bored, why not pamper yourself with a spray of perfume?

Its smell will refresh your mind and help you stay focused during classes even if you don’t go outside for a breath of spring air. The scent of rosemary, osmanthus, or even poppy will caress your body as if you are fully enjoying the spring outside.

Pamper yourself with body lotion

You can also brighten yourself up with a scent from a body lotion, so what I also do as a self-care routine in the spring is rub body lotion all over my body every night before going to bed. You may think it’s time-consuming to pick up a type of body lotion that has a smell you like, but just a bottle of body cream with the scent of coconut, fig, or milk will fuel your life.

Every time I apply it to my body, the scent takes me to an island in the middle of the ocean with palm trees, pink sands, and mild sunshine, or sometimes to nights when my meemaw told me bedtime stories. When everything awakens in spring, you just need a bottle of body lotion to evoke your past warm-hearted memories.

Pick up a book that you have read before

Every time I re-read a book, I always obtain new insight. As our experiences pile up when we grow old, we start to spot different things when we read a book for the second time. You may get amused by an inside joke in a book when you revisit it or fall for the plot which you discovered at a first look at the cover. Trust me, the moment when you discover something that you haven’t noticed in a book beforehand, you will feel a sense of achievement like a lost person finding an oasis in the Sahara Desert.

Gearing up to feel spring again? Prepare for the season with your own self-care routine!
