It had been an off and on rumor for weeks, but recently it was confirmed via Jeffree Star’s emotional YouTube video that him and long-time boyfriend, Nate Schwandt, had broken up.
We still cannot believe it’s true and refuse to accept that Jeffree removed “Wife of Nathan” from his Instagram bio. However, when Jeffree posted the tweet “Dear God, please stop the pain.” and deleted it immediately after posting it, we knew something horrible was going on off-camera.
This was so shocking that we can argue it’s the most devastating current break up – but then we remember Vanessa Hudgens’ and Austin Butler’s split…just kidding, we’re still utterly and completely torn apart.
Jeffree and Nate had been together for five years and fell in love with each other hard when they first met. The two started talking via Instagram, then Nate started being featured in Jeffree’s videos more and more, hinting to fans that love may be brewing.
In the “We Broke Up.” YouTube video, Jeffree says,
“[Nate] was the only man that was ever confident enough to love me publicly, to love me for me, fully, all my flaws, no makeup waking up in bed. He never cared about any of it, and he just loved me for me. And no man has ever had those feelings, I don’t think, for me. And I’ve never loved someone as I’ve loved him.”
Not many people are aware that Nate had never had sexual or emotional connections with men prior to meeting Jeffree!
This came as a shock for those who follow Jeffree and his YouTube channel as he just posted a new video featuring a house tour – a house that him and Nate just bought together. If you haven’t seen the video of his new, monstrous mansion you should – even if you don’t follow the beauty guru. It will completely blow your mind (like…16-car garage kind of blow-your-mind)!! Despite losing Nate, Jeffree will not be alone in his new house as his mom, assistant and security team have moved in.
Getting back to the heartbreaking details, Jeffree went silent on social media prior to publicly announcing the breakup. Then the couple took the world by surprise when Jeffree posted his “We Broke Up.” video on his channel, and then our waterworks just could not stop.
So, Jeffree explains it pretty candidly in the video, but we need to take a minute to break it down.
In the video, Jeffree explains how Nate had been struggling with his mental health. In light of two dogs passing away within just months of each other, and his brother suffering from a near life-threatening seizure, AND Jeffree’s makeup career reaching new heights after the collaboration with Shane Dawson, it was overwhelming for someone who wished to live a more private life.
With battling the loss of two pets, among other personal issues, Nate needed to take time to handle his personal issues in private – who can blame him?
Nate has not yet commented on the breakup and we shouldn’t expect him to. This is a private guy who is trying to overcome personal battles, so hopefully fans and the media can recognize this and allow him to do so in peace, as he seeks to find his own.
To focus on himself during this heartbreaking time, Jeffree canceled the Jeffree Star x MMMMitchell Masterclass tour with Tatti Lashes that was supposed to be hosted across Europe and the United Kingdom.
Jeffree passionately expresses how he and Nate are still extremely close and will continue to be into the future. Jeffree further says “We were too busy being there for each other, that we forgot to be there for ourselves”. Now they are partner parenting their remaining four dogs. In one of his recent Snapchat stories, viewers saw Nate with the dogs – giving us a spark of false hope that the couple was rekindling. Jeffree took to Snapchat to explain that Nate will be watching and visiting the dogs, and the two will remain in contact but they will not be getting back together.
We want to wish happiness and health to Jeffree, Nate and Nate’s family as all parties cope and take time to care for themselves during this difficult time.
