If He Got Pulled Over
I signed up for a safety class and they told me what I should do
If I ever got pulled over by the cops
They told all I have to do is
reach in my pocket
Pull out my license
my registration
Hold them in my hand and wait for them to ask
Make eye contact with a smile
Say yes sir, No ma’am
And if they do not need to give you a ticket
You should be on with your day
But they never told me what you should do
If you are a black male and you get pulled over
Because if they did
it would be nothing like the statement above
Because if he got pulled over
He would need to be

In the last week we have had 4 brothers die
Because of their skin color
Making people nervous

The cops were put here to protect
And in my 19-year-old life I have witnessed
Everything but that
I fear for my little brother’s life
I tell him

Because if he got pulled over
I would cry
I would already believe that this is the last time
I would hear his voice
Or see his goofy smile
Do you see what is happening
We are making it hard for him to just live
I thought racism was over
I thought all of this was over
But as I turn to channel 2
And watch the news
I realize that we have gone back in time
Because while we continue to get pulled over
This is something we will never just get over
This is war
Because when he got pulled over
He never made it home
