3 Super Healthy Breakfast Options that You Can Make in Your Dorm

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Brandeis chapter.

Breakfast has always been my favorite meal of the day. There’s nothing better than starting my day with delicious food, and I’m determined to continue making my favorite breakfast dishes, with or without a kitchen! (And as I’ve stressed in some of my previous articles, eating breakfast is one of the best things you can do to live a healthy life.) Here are some of my go-to recipes:

1.     Smoothie Bowl

You really only need a few key things to make this delicious option (the most important one being the blender; I recommend the Magic Bullet.) To make the smoothie part of the bowl:

·       Add about ¼ cup of almond milk (preferably unsweetened)

·       1 frozen banana

·       ½ cup of frozen berries

·       Protein powder (my favorite is Vega)

·       1 tablespoon of Chia gel (add 1 tablespoon of chia seeds to ½ cup of water)

·       A handful of kale (optional)

·       Almond butter (optional)

This should create a thick, gelato-esque substance. Now top with your choice of:

·       Cacao nibs (they’re filled with antioxidants and taste delicious when paired with fruit)

·       Almonds/almond butter (tons of protein)

·       Fresh berries (also contain loads of antioxidants)

·       Purely Elizabeth Granola (sold at the C-store)

·       Coconut flakes

(I buy most of this stuff at Trader Joe’s or on Amazon Prime.)

2.     Overnight Oats

This super-easy meal is protein packed, delicious, and ready by the time you wake up. The beauty of overnight oats is how simple it really is. To make this tasty option, place the following in a mason jar:

·       ½ cup of rolled oats

·       1 cup of almond milk (sweetened or unsweetened)

·       A spoonful of honey or stevia

·       ½ sliced banana

       * Optional: spoonful of chia seeds

Top with cacao nibs, sliced almonds/ almond butter and coconut flakes.

3.      Almond Butter Toast Supreme

Although ridiculously simple, this breakfast favorite never fails. Simply toast a piece of bread, add some almond butter, cinnamon, honey, and sliced bananas and you’ve got yourself a delicious, healthy meal!
