TUNING IN …

Ever feel disconnected in life? Or maybe even out of tune with your body, mind, and self? Lately, I’ve been feeling this way more than usual. It’s like I’ve been stuck in this unknown chapter of life. That was until I decided to listen to a podcast called “The Rebecca Leigh Podcast” by Rebecca Leigh. Over the years, I’ve learned so much from her and other people who spread advice and knowledge via their podcast. Rebecca Leigh is a social media influencer and holistic nutritionist. The main concept I learned about through one of her podcasts was learning how to balance your masculine and feminine energy. Also, a side note: these energies are not determined by gender and everyone has them.

As I went on my walk listening to the podcast episode, I found myself relating to her journey. The ideas revolve around control, rest, giving, and receiving. Do you ever feel like you have to plan and control everything? Sometimes, it may feel like an endless cycle of plan. plan. plan. hit a wall. repeat. For the majority of my life, until a few years ago, I feel I was in my more masculine energy. She describes this in her story, as well saying planning, logic, and control took over her life. In a similar sense, during that part of my life, I was controlling food, exercising, and striving for perfectionism… that was until I learned how to rest, and relax in the present. Now, I feel a balance of both masculine and feminine energy, and I am even more in touch with my feminine energy nowadays. This is because I have enjoyed walks in nature, listening to my intuition, resting, and being creative. Rebecca Leigh also discusses Yin and Yang energy to explain this idea. Yin and Yang energy is a Chinese philosophical concept. Yin energy (the moon) is feminine and connects with passiveness, feelings, and softness. Yang energy (the sun) is masculine and relates to activity, assertiveness, and thinking. It’s not a bad thing to have more masculine or feminine energy; it’s about connecting and balancing. How exactly do you balance them though?

TIPS:

  • Walk or run
  • Rest or get productive
  • Be creative or create art
  • Do some relaxing yoga or stretch
  • Listen to your intuition
  • Allow time for yourself
  • Be open to new friendships and relationships
  • Spend time in nature
  • Read or write in the morning
  • Listen to music and podcasts

Looking at this with relationships, she described feeling like she was always the one giving and now she has learned to take a step back. The ideas that she expressed were insightful and beautiful. It shows how people in relationships come in as themselves, as an individual. Also, how everyone is attached to their values and their own personality and some people have more feminine or masculine energy. The most important part is that everyone follows their intuition and creates a sense of awareness. Just as she said, it is all about understanding your own life and not being scared to try new things in life and love. Every relationship and every person is unique, and so different.

Balancing Through stereotypes …

Gender stereotypes are illustrated with this idea of comparing traditional masculine and feminine ideals and the Yin and Yang energy. Men are more dominant like the sun and in the light; Women are more submissive like the moon and in the darkness. Also in relationships, it is truly all about balance and overcoming the stereotypes that society has put on people and couples in any type of love they have.

I took a women’s studies class and in my research, I noticed that just like this podcast there are gender differences that have been portrayed in influencers and people in power. Stereotypes have always been there in our society and there are many things to learn and change. It is a great idea to look at creating and choosing love not out of fear and loneliness but by genuinely being yourself. Also, reminding ourselves every now and then to be open to receiving an abundance of love. Whether that be within and/or external. Rebecca Leigh is an influencer with a voice to share her beliefs and show that women can also be the sun and come out of the darkness and into the light, too. In the end, everyone can feel content being their truest selves without feeling stuck behind fears and just be. It may even allow for people to communicate feelings and take on the role they want to be heard and respected.
