It can seem daunting to shop healthy on a budget!  With these tips, you can stock your shelves and save your money while doing it.

1. Get the store brand when possible.  Lots of snacks, pastas, and cleaning products come in a store brand that tends to be cheaper than the commercial brand.  Stores also like to give discounts on their own items (ex. Wegman’s cards work more often on Wegman’s products).

2. Know how much fruit and vegetables you are going to eat until the next time you shop.  Perishables need to be eaten fast and throwing them out will waste money, of course!  Get frozen fruits and vegetables if you don’t think you’ll be shopping for awhile because those don’t go bad.

3. Shop sales!

4. Get vegetarian proteins over meat.  It’s a lot cheaper and healthier, for yourselves and your wallet.

5. Don’t shop hungry, you’ll spend more!
