Tiny Slips, Big Meanings

Over the past few years, I’ve been collecting fortune cookies that I find meaningful or that relate to things happening in my life. Enjoy a few & what they mean to me :)

Every invitation you get isn’t necessarily one you should accept.
I just recently got this one, and I’m connecting it to my current job search. As a senior in college, I’ve been stressed applying to every posting out there, just hoping companies reach back. This fortune reminded me to take a different approach—to think more intentionally about who I’m applying to and to make sure their values align with mine. At the end of the day, I’m trying to be happy, not just employed. Follow your passion!!

Do your work with your whole heart and you will succeed.
I’ve had this one FOREVER, and it just aligns with how I go about everything in life. If you aren’t passionate about the work you’re doing, are you even happy? Doing things that make your heart give itself a hug is the most valuable thing I can do. That’s why I still run an elementary school program for young girls, helping them build confidence. Yapping with them, making them feel welcome, and cheering them up when they’ve had a rough day is something that makes both them and me happy.

Today it’s up to you to create the peacefulness you long for.

Honestly, I don’t remember when I got this one, but it’s so true. If you’re under constant stress and never give yourself time, will you ever feel at peace? You can say yes to everything, but sometimes saying no is the best medicine. Self-love matters, and protecting your peace does too.

Your adventurous spirit will lead you to greatness.

I could cry because I actually got this one either before or during study abroad, and it was the most heartwarming thing I could’ve read in that moment. I chose to go abroad alone and take this entire thrilling adventure by myself—and it ended up being the most rewarding and transformative experience I’ve ever had. While a lot of people go with their friends, going solo teaches you SO much and makes you grow in ways you never expect.

No one can compete with you on being you.
I love this one because it’s so true. I’ve always been someone who steps out of the box and embraces being silly. We can’t all be the same—so let your true self shine.

Everything must have a beginning.
I have no idea when I got this one, but I love reading it back. If you don’t start today, then when will you? Going to the gym, for example, can feel daunting, but starting with small habits makes it easier. Everything you want takes time and self-discipline. Small steps get you to big goals.

Hiiii, my name is Steph! I am a senior at Bentley and love anything to do with traveling, exploring, and making an impact. Talk to me about my favorite coffee shops or my Duolingo streak! :)
