October 31st is always filled with candy and costumes, but as you grow, the holiday begins to entail different things.
When We Were Young
Remember when you had to buy costumes extra big to fit over the warm layers underneath? Oh, how things have changed. Halloween as a kid was all about fake superhero muscle costumes, princess dresses, and chaperoned trick or treating. Mom or Dad would walk up to the door with you, you’d get asked what you were dressed up as, and were reminded to thank your candy-givers.
The Middle School Years
The costumes get tighter and the cliques become more apparent. You and you friends dress up as every M&M color possible, because if you’re not wearing a group costume, are you even wearing a costume? You strive to be cool by taking the whole bowl of candy and dumping it in your bag.
High School
Couples costumes are all over the halls. Your costume for your first Halloween party definitely won’t pass the dress code at school. The days of trick or treating have come to an end.
The College Experience
Halloween isn’t just a day; it’s a weekend filled with parties, costumes that hardly cover your body, and hangovers. Dorm door decorations fill the halls, and Snapchat stories of candy, parties, and costumes are up all weekend.
Adult Life
Just cause you’re all grown up doesn’t mean you can’t still keep up with the kids. Husband and wife costumes, dog costumes, and house decorations are now Halloween essentials.
