Lazy Girl Fitness – Exercises You Can Do Right in Your Dorm Room!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Do ever have that feeling of knowing you should work out but not wanting to make the trek all the way to the gym? Overcoming that laziness can be hard, especially at a busy point in the semester. So instead, why not stay in your dorm room and work out from there! Here are my 5 favorite workouts to do in the comfort of my dorm room.

Chair Step-Ups

Work those glutes and quads while doing this simple exercise! Grab a sturdy chair and step one foot up onto the seat of the chair. Make sure your leg is bent at a 90-degree angle. Step the other foot up, tap it on the chair, and then lower it back to the ground. Repeat this movement with one foot remaining on the seat of the chair for 20 reps and then switch legs. Who said leg day has to happen at the gym?

Leg Lifts

For this core exercise, lie flat on your back with your legs out straight and together. Keeping your legs straight, lift them up to the ceiling so that your butt lifts off the ground. Then slowly lower your legs so that they are hovering above the floor. And repeat. This exercise is one you could even do from bed!

Planks

Planking, as we saw from the trend in 2011, can be done anywhere! So use this fact to your advantage and do some planks on your dorm room floor. Plank for however long feels comfortable for you, and remember to keep your body parallel to the floor!

 Crunches

Crunches are another exercise that can be done pretty much anywhere. Lie down on the floor with your knees bent so that your feet are flat on the floor. Use your abs to bring your head, neck, and shoulder blades off the floor. Try not to move your neck too much and really lift up! This a great exercise to do when you need a quick and easy way to get the blood pumping!

Yoga

Lastly, yoga is not only a great work out that is easy to do in your room, but it also helps to clear the mind. So often, college students are completely overwhelmed by everything going on in their lives and this sometimes translates into not have enough time for mindfulness or working out. So, next time you are too busy and stressed to go to the gym, try a little bit of yoga!

Try these workouts next time that lazy feeling strikes and comment your thoughts below!
