So how long have you been a part of Her Campus? What inspired you to join the committee?

I joined Her Campus just last year when I was drawn to the pink colours at the HC stall at the Fresher’s Fayre. I didn’t do any writing last year, and this year I really wanted to feel more of a part of the society and get properly involved, so I decided to run for the committee. I’ve done treasurer roles a few times before, so I figured it would be a nice role to do since I already know some stuff.

What attracted you to studying in Aberdeen

As a Finn, Scotland is a very attractive place to go and get your education since it’s free for EU students, and it would feel silly to pay for something that I would get back in Finland for free too with top-quality teaching. I had never been to Scotland (nor England for that matter), so I did loads of online research and I just fell in love with Aberdeen. I have zero regrets about deciding to come here!

I hope it’s lived up to your expectations! How have you found life in Scotland so far?

It’s been okay. There are some things that have been hard like being homesick and missing my family, friends and my dog. Also, I find things like renting a flat, dealing with the bank or the GP (oh how I miss e-prescriptions…) kinda outdated, slow and unnecessarily difficult. There might be a proper rant about this topic coming up later on… Overall I think I’ve managed to adapt pretty well, besides still being unable to understand some people’s accents, and I have had loads of fun!

I definitely still struggle with accents, you can’t escape the Doric! We would love to know what is in your handbag right now?

I always carry lip balm, a hair tie, and tissues. But right now, I also have my keys, wallet, reading glasses, headphones, and a water bottle.

Would you give us your ultimate beauty tip?

As someone with very dry skin, I’d say moisturising is just super important! For my face, I do an everyday routine of day cream in the morning, and either night cream or serum at night. After showering, more often than not I moisturise my whole body with lotion. Sometimes people forget that you can get pimples even if your skin is dry, so it’s good to remember that most skin types love a good moisturising.
