1. “It doesn’t rain as much in Aberdeen.”
As said by many of my family and friends before I came to the granite city, however it does rain. A lot. When it does, it’s windy and cold too making it 10 times worse.
2. It is okay to admit that you are homesick!
Moving away from home and into halls is always a hard thing- but don’t be afraid to admit that you are missing home to your new friends!
3. You might not always be best friends with your flatmates
If you are finding yourself not being besties with your new roomies, don’t worry. There are plenty of other places to find your type of people.Perhaps in class, or by joining a society and/or sports team…
4. The hills in Seaton definitely count as your workout.
It’s called Hillhead for a reason; I may as well have worn my gym clothes every time I walked to university.
5. Try something new!
When wandering around the sports and societies fayres and something catches your eye, don’t be afraid to try it out at least once. You aren’t going to know unless you try!
6. Sometimes, you do actually have to go to lectures… (And study too!)
It isn’t all about parties and I wish someone would have reminded me of that.
7. University is hard
If you are finding yourself that you keep getting Ds on your essays, it is pretty damn hard. But you’ll get there. It’s meant to be hard but the vast majority of people come out with a degree they’re proud of!
8. You can’t do everything!
Everyone tells you take every chance you can get but sometimes, you just can’t fit it in with everyone and everything. Don’t feel pressured to pull yourself in 5000 directions.
9. Hangover grub’s are everything.
As someone who only managed to find grub half way through 1st year, it is my favourite lunch stop and they now even have the new and improved Grub and the one on Schoolhill in town so you can always get your grub fix.
10. It is cold, miserable and grey but these will probably be the best 4 years of your life. Honestly. Enjoy!
