If you’ve been on social media or seen the news lately, there’s a good chance you’ve heard that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are getting a divorce. The couple began dating in 2016, got married in 2019, and have two children together. Whether you wanted to date Joe as a child and were jealous of Sophie, the couple was the reason you believed in love or a combination of both— so it makes sense why this announcement came as a shock to many people. On Sept. 6, both Turner and Jonas released a statement on Instagram confirming their divorce. The statement read,“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Throughout the years, Jonas and Turner have shared plenty of cute moments together from Turner explaining to Instyle in 2017 that she felt an instant connection with Jonas, their spontaneous Vegas nuptials, and their destination wedding in France. Let’s not forget the adorable announcements of their children. Despite what many had thought, it seems Jonas and Turner’s history wasn’t strong enough to keep them together.
While some fans have taken to social media to share their devastation over news of the pair’s split, others found themselves coming to Turner’s defense after a source told TMZ, “She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles.” Some are now calling out Jonas as they think he’s the one who started this smear campaign towards Turner. Her Campus reached out to Turner’s team for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
After the release of the TMZ article, fans are convinced Jonas hasn’t changed since when he broke up with Taylor Swift during a 25-second phone call back in 2008.
During Labor Day Weekend, reports surfaced that Jonas was meeting with a divorce lawyer to end his marriage to Turner after four years of marriage. Naturally, fans were shocked by this news given the fact the Game of Thrones actress had just shown her support for the singer during the Jonas Brothers’ Concert at Yankee Stadium. On Sept. 4, Jonas was spotted wearing his wedding rings, leading fans to believe that his relationship with Turner was still on the right track. The following day, fans were left heartbroken when they learned Jonas and Turner are, in fact, divorcing.
After six years together, it’s hard to believe that Joe and Sophie are over. If anyone needs me, I’ll be surrounded by tissues and lots of ice cream. But one thing I know for sure, though, is that I will be wishing Sophie the best and hoping that she’s doing as well as can be during this trying and heartbreaking time.
