This week has been a big one for One Directioners far and wide. Not only did Harry Styles release an *interesting* music video where he was half-squid (and had a full-grown beard, but that’s another story), but Niall Horan also announced that he’s finally coming out with new music following a two-year long hiatus. And all I can say is… OMG! I’ve been waiting for this one.
On Oct. 27, the 29-year-old singer took to Twitter and his Instagram Story to share the surprising news with his fans. “I’m back!” Horan excitedly told the camera. “I’ve got new music coming in the new year that I’m really, really proud of, and I appreciate you being so patient with me while I’ve done it.” How is he always so gracious?
When is Niall Horan’s new music coming out?
Although Horan has been busy filming for The Voice, which is set to premiere next May, he assured fans that a “new album” will be coming in 2023. Although the exact date is TBA, fans can’t contain their excitement over the announcement, with one Twitter user saying, “New music from Niall Horan is not a want, it’s a NEED.” And honestly, I couldn’t agree more — with everything going on in the world right now, new music from Horan is a need.
Horan’s last album, Heartbreak Weather, was released back in 2020, which featured his hit song “Black And White.” The singer also dropped an EP in 2021 titled Niall’s Mix, as well as a couple of singles. “It’s been a while, which I know you’re very aware of,” the singer said in his video through a laugh. Yeah, Niall — in the words of Lizzo, it’s about damn time!
Wait, is Niall Horan also planning on performing festivals?
In his video to fans, Horan also mentioned how he wants to expand his horizons and try his hand at performing festivals in the new year. “Something that I’ve wanted to do forever is festivals, and I’ve never really had the opportunity to do it,” Horan said. “I think we will be announcing some festivals in the next couple of days and weeks and months for next year, which I’m really excited about.”
In his next Instagram Story, Horan dropped a colorful graphic with his name headlining the TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow, Scotland in July 2023, alongside other popular musicians like George Ezra, Maisie Peters, and The 1975. OK, so who wants to get a ticket and fly to the U.K. with me this summer? Any takers?
Honestly, I’m completely here for this new Niall era, and I have so many questions. What will his new album be called? Will he and Styles possibly collab on new music (pretty please)? Will he also be performing at Coachella 2023? Who knows — but I’m keeping my eyes peeled.
