Megan The Stallion’s New Song Is Her Most Vulnerable One Yet

Known for her viral hit song “Savage,” as well as her collabs with Cardi B on “Bongos” and Ariana Grande on a remix of “34+35,” Megan Thee Stallion has made quite a name for herself in the music industry. But despite her commercial success, everything in Megan’s personal life is not all sunshine and rainbows.

On Nov. 3, the rapper released her new song, Cobra, in which she gets vulnerable with fans about her struggles with mental health, including past suicidal thoughts and feeling depressed. Megan took the pain that she’s dealt with throughout her life and created a raw song that’s already resonated with fans.

The first verse of the song starts with “Breakin’ down and I had the whole world watching/But the worst part is really who watched me?” Ever since rising to fame in 2019, Megan has gone through a lot. In addition to losing both her grandmother and her mother that year, Megan also had the scare of her life in 2020 when R&B singer Tory Lanez shot her in the foot.

It can be hard to process emotions when you’re in the public eye since everyone just assumes you’re fine and no one bothers to check up on you. The first verse continues with “Yes, I’m very depressed/How can somebody so blessed wanna slit their wrists,” confirming Megan’s depression and how she’s experienced thoughts of self-harm. She adds, “Sh*t, I’d probably bleed out Pinot/When they find me, I’m in Valentino.”

To make this song even more heartbreaking, Megan Thee Stallion references a time she was cheated on. She raps, “Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, getting his d*ck sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’.” Though Megan doesn’t reveal a name, fans think this lyric references her ex, Pardison Fontaine.

Despite the hurt of someone being unfaithful to her, Megan raps about not letting her guard back down and giving the person a second chance.  “I ain’t goin’, yeah, no emotion, ayy/Back outside, yeah, back in motion, ayy/He keep callin’, hmm, I ignore it (Ayy)/He say I’m crazy, hmm, don’t I know it, ah,” she raps.

There is much more Megan raps about in “Cobra,” but the overall message is just as powerful as the lyrics. Although Megan’s experienced back-to-back obstacles, she’s determined to keep going no matter how much her depression or mental health try to tell her she shouldn’t.

Most popular artists don’t share their personal struggles in their music, so it’s nice to know that Megan Thee Stallion showcased her vulnerability in “Cobra.” The song is a testament that success doesn’t shield someone from mental health struggles. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to have this song on repeat for the next few days.
