A Male Student Was Angry About Women-Only Scholarships & Now Yale Is Being Investigated For Discrimination

Ivy League university Yale is in hot water after their offer of certain scholarships only for women. According to Refinery29, Kursat Christoff Pegkoz, a student at the University of Southern California (who doesn’t attend Yale has no real connection the university), filed a Title IV complaint claiming that the prestigious university discriminates against men because of them and now it’s being investigated by The Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights.

“I oppose feminism in colleges because women often have special privileges in academia that men do not have. That’s probably why male enrollment is so low,” Pegkoz said. “I thought about going after Harvard, but then I felt that Yale has larger affirmative action programs for women.”

According to Bustle, Padgoz argues that because he feels men are a minority at Yale University and that he wants the programs at Yale to be gender neutral, adding that filing Title IX complaints is a political hobby of his.

In Fall 2014, it was noted that Yale’s enrollment of men and women were almost even, with women being fewer by a couple of numbers. It also should be noted that scholarships geared toward marginalized identities (women, people of color, disabled folk, etc.) work in intersectional ways that seek to counteract generations of systemic obstacles — efforts that aren’t made obsolete due to emerging demographic changes.

This, however, is not the first time Yale found itself in a suit regarding discrimination. A lawsuit filed in 2016 against Yale conveyed a case where a student claimed they were not given their due process rights when on trials for a sexual misconduct charge, due to their gender.

However, Yale says they are sticking to their anti-discrimination practices, a Yale spokesman telling Refinery29, “Yale is committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of sex in all university programs.”
